Going Away Party

A couple from our church, Don and Debby, who have been mentors to so many young couples, including us, sold their house and moved out of state to be closer to their family.  Our small group decided to throw them a going away party to show our appreciation to them.  We had the party at our house because Don was the one who helped us get the stone for our fireplace at such an amazing deal and Tony wanted to show off the finished product to Don!

It was a wonderful time celebrating two amazing people.  I wish I had taken more pictures.We had about 30 people show up, an amazing pulled pork bbq dinner, cake, a memory book, and so much fun!

Don is an avid hunter and since he's moving to the beach, the cake shows Don trying to "hunt" flying fish on the beach.

The memory book we gave them was very special.  I took in all the notes and pictures from all the couples and created the book and with every single entry as I was working on it, I teared up!  They have touched so many lives.  The inside cover said, "To Don and Debby, your light shines bright in each of us." 

And just to show what kind of people they are, here is what Tony and I wrote:

Dear Don and Debby,

We are so thankful to have you in our lives.  Several years ago, we had been to church on and off for years, but never committed.  Then, one day, we were invited by the Dowdy family to have lunch with their small group at the Homeplace.  It was there that we met you, felt enveloped in your warmth and compassion, and continued coming to church on a regular basis.  It was because of you guys that we joined your Life group.  It was because of you guys that we joined the church.  It was because of you guys that Tony was baptized.    Of course, the Lord had a part in that too, but it was you shining His light on us that lead the way.  Seeing you on Sundays and Thursdays always put a smile on our face.
 
As we began to know you more, we found we have a common interest with Don...hunting!  It is a special bond we share because only fellow hunters can understand that passion.  Our fondest memories include meeting up with you in the wee hours of the morning and going hunting with you (and sharing your lunch with Amy!)

Your steadfast marriage and faith are what we strive for every day in our personal lives and in our ministry to others.  We doubt you'll ever truly know the impact you have had on us, but know that we love and appreciate you with a strength that could move mountains.
