I decided to go with a princess and knight theme after finding these adorable invitations:
My original plan was to have a medieval feast for food - chicken, grapes, bread, etc. but in the end decided to just go the simple route with Papa John's pizza. Definitely easier!
The girls wore their princess dresses and were given a crown, a wand, and some other girly goodies.
The boys were given a knight shield ($1 store find!!), glow sword, and other boy goodies.
For the activities:
- Slay the Dragon Pinata for all the kids
- The princesses decorated their drink glasses with jewels and had a tea party with "crumpets" and sparkling grape juice. They also joined having their nails painted while enjoying their tea party.
- The knights participated in "knight training" in the garage. They had horse and dragon relay races, jousting, and sword training with glow in the dark balloons
- We had a "dragon's breath" fire going outside during the party and had planned on making s'mores but it was too cold and we ended up ditching that idea.
As I was planning the party and making the guest list, I realized how many sweet friends and family we have and started thinking about all those people feeling obligated to bring gifts for each of my children who have more than they could ever need. We have friends at church who are going through a difficult time with their infant son and so after talking with Tony and with both of the kids, we decided we wanted to take donations for that family instead of people bringing gifts. It turned out great and the kids learned a valuable lesson in giving.
All in all, it was a FABULOUS party. This momma was worn out when it was all said and done but my kids had the time of their lives....that made it all worth it!
